Award Winner
This Anti-Bullying DVD involving young people
from Blaenau Gwent Youth Forum, was set in Wales and features
interviews with high profile figures such as Prime Minister Tony
Blair; John Toshack, manager of Wales’ Football team; Jane Davidson, Welsh Assembly
Minster for Education in Wales, and Welsh Rugby legend & TV
personality, Jonathan Davies.
This prize was particularly prominent as it was in a category with
some 130 other nominees! |
DM Davies Award Nominee, Cardiff Screen Festival
This project is entitled 10 Minutes , a documentary
set in the vibrant capital of Wales , Cardiff , starring trolley porter
Pete, a local boy from Splott. Although devoted to his job at Tesco’s,
he harbours a dream for a life as a comedian. Following his unfair dismissal,
Pete takes the plunge at an open-mike night.
The film was highly rated and commended by judges, who
included:
Berwyn Rowlands , the Jury Chair who
has been involved in the media sector for over 20 years undertaking various
roles including producing, directing and managing. In 1997 he was appointed
the first Chief Executive of Sgrîn Cymru Wales.
Micheal Kuhn , who joined Polygram N.V
(now part of Universal) in 1975 and in 1991 set up Polygram Filmed Entertainment,
which made and distributed over 100 feature films and which between them
have won 14 Academy Awards.
Alan Edmunds , recently appointed as
the 14th editor of The Western Mail.
Frances Hendron, Chief Executive of the
Celtic Film and Television Festival which uniquely promotes the cultures
and languages of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall and Brittany on screen
and in broadcasting.
Jay Duplass , who was born and raised
in New Orleans, La. where he and his brother Mark made many films: The
Blob, The Invisible Man Walking Across the Den, and the epic saga about
the robber versus the karate expert. Later on Jay moved to Austin , Texas
for college, studied film, grew sideburns, and talked about the French
New Wave. |
